Kyllang Rock to Land Beverley Conditions Race

The feature race on the Beverley card on Tuesday is a good looking conditions race for sprinters. Heading the betting market in the race is Kyllang Rock, a five year old trained by James Tate. The horse is relatively lightly races for his age, but has shown glimpses of promise that would imply to us that he is better than this, and can eventually go on to win Listed contests, while having the ability to run in minor group races. This should be a class below what he is capable of, and that is enough for me to really fancy his chances on Tuesday.

The horse won a similar type of race at Nottingham last time out, and this doesn’t appear to offer any tougher task to him, so there is plenty of optimism that a repeat performance will be enough here. The main danger appears to be Tarboosh, who is at the bottom of the weights, although strictly on ratings he isn’t receiving enough weight off Kyllang Rock to win this.

This is all of course based on the fact that Kyllang Rock is not going to show any more than we have seen so far, which could be wrong. The win at Nottingham was just his second run in 2019, and his first for over 100 days after continuing injury problems.

With the horse being quite difficult to get right, there is every chance that trainer James Tate left a little to work on when going to Nottingham, so it’s not beyond the realms of possibility to see even more from him here which widens the gap between him and the rest of the field.

The other big thing in his favour is the expected ground on Tuesday. This was already described as no better than good on Monday, but with rain forecast for most of Tuesday, it is highly likely that the ground will get worse before this race begins. His win at Nottingham came on soft ground, and he has previous form on that and heavy, so any rain will be a benefit to this horse, while also being a hinderance to some of his opposition.

Everything points towards another good run from this horse, and it looks as though he is more than capable of landing another one of these conditions races before moving onto bigger and better things. There is a lot to like about him, and in the feature race on Tuesday afternoon, he is the best bet on the card for me at Beverley.
