Mighty Spirit Value to Take a Big Leap Forward in Marygate

The Marygate listed race for fillies is often a very good pointer towards the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot in June. We have seen a number of good fillies in this race in the past, and this year looks to be no different. There are many likeable types, but the one that catches the eye is certainly Mighty Spirit, who was very green on debut at Newcastle but despite that she managed to push the winner of that race all the way.

The winner that day was Lady Kermit, who is the favourite for this race but there is plenty of hope for me that Mighty Spirit turns around the form. They run off level weights today, which is in the favour of Lady Kermit, but I am expecting a far better showing from Mighty Spirt and I think that will more than negate that.

The Fahey filly was very slowly away and green in the early stages at Newcastle, before eventually getting going and finishing just under two lengths behind the winner. She lost the race in the first couple of furlongs but battled on well despite that. She was the only one to really challenge the winner, despite everything going wrong for her.

I’m expecting a far more professional run here, she should have learnt a hell of a lot from that Newcastle run. It is enough for her to get involved and I don’t see there being too much between her and the favourite Lady Kermit, even though they are now racing on level weights. At the prices, the value is certainly with Mighty Spirit and she is the one I am happy to side with in the York opener on Friday.
