Invincible Army to Bounce Back from Royal Ascot Disappointment

It is not often you see a Royal Ascot horse back out on the track so quickly after the Royal meeting but that is exactly what Invincible Army is doing today. Not only that, but he was very disappointing at that meeting, and is on the comeback trail here. There is no doubting his quality, but you do have to trust that his trainer has him spot on, there are no ill effects from Ascot, and that he can bounce back here. I think he can, and if he is anywhere near his best in this race, he will be able to pick this lot up and carry them on his shoulders.

He has a 5lb penalty to carry here for his previous win at Group Two level, that came at York and was a very good Group Two. He won that day with ease, coming away from the field in the style of a top quality Group One performer. His trip to Royal Ascot was supposed to confirm that he was a Group One horse, but he could only manage 7th in the Golden Jubilee, with the fast ground blamed for that run, although he has won on fast before.

Now it is bounce back time for him, and a drop down to Group Three company. Had he come here on the back of his York win, and not Royal Ascot, he would have been long odds on to beat this lot so if you trust that the horse is sound, which I do, he represents tremendous value here.

Both his win at York, and the race before, where he won a Listed contest with ease at Doncaster, have shown just how good this horse is. Try to ignore the Royal Ascot run, and let’s hope this horse once again shows us the promise he has by landing this Group Three contest in good style on Saturday.
