Just My Type Looks Just The Type to Improve for Handicaps

Roger Varian is a trainer that is known for bringing his horses along at a nice, slow rate and allowing them the chance to improve with age and as the season passes. Just My Type looks to be exactly the kind of horse that he thrives with, and today she moves up into handicap company for the first time at Haydock.

She has ran four times so far in novice races, showing a solid level of form at seven furlongs and one mile. Three of those runs were last season, with just one run this season so far and it is that run which I really expect her to build on. Varian is known for his horses continuing to improve as the season goes on, and I expect we will see a much better horse than the one we saw at Goodwood in May, a race she finished third in behind a couple of decent types.

She has been given a handicap mark of 73 moving forward, and based on what we have seen from her, that looks to be something that she can work with. She is certainly bred to be a lot better than that, and based on what we have seen from her so far in her first four starts, it would be disappointing if she couldn’t win a race of this mark.

If you analyse her form and try to work out her mark then the mark of 73 looks to be about right, the handicapper hasn’t made an error here. However, what I am factoring in here which they don’t is the fact that I expect her to be a better horse now that what we have seen from her so far. That is not all, I expect her to get even better down the line too and this race could be the start of a good run for her.

We are solely concentrating on today’s race here, and she is a good bet on the Haydock card for me. She is the one horse in the race who could be ahead of her current mark and with the chance of further improvement down the line, she could turn out to be a much better horse than one that is rated 73. She looks sure to go close today, and further down the line I expect more wins from this filly over the course of this season and next.
