Milton Road to Pounce Late in Thirsk Finale

Milton Road bounced back to form last time out with a very good run at Musselburgh over seven furlongs. That trip stretches him a little too far, and he was just unable to get to the leader on that occasion. He has been put up 1lb in the handicap for going close on that occasion, but even with that factored in here, he is still very nicely handicapped on his old form, and back over six furlongs he can win the last race of the day at Thirsk.

Since moving to the Rebecca Bastiman yard, this horse has dropped in the weights dramatically. He has placed off marks in the 70s not too long ago, and runs off just 56 here. He is clearly well handicapped and it could simply be the case that the yard have taken their time to get to know this horse, and what he needs. If he is back in the kind of form that we saw last time out, then there is no doubt that this horse is ready to win a race, and he could put together a sequence of good runs from this kind of mark.

There looks to be plenty of pace on his side of the draw, so expect to see him getting a nice pull into the race. This horse is a very strong traveller and with a couple of furlongs to go, you should be able to spot his jockey Danny Tudhope hard on the bridle. You won’t see him come through until late, but with a clear passage I am expecting this horse to go very close, and hopefully get up in the final furlong.

There is a lot to like about what we saw last time, and at his optimum trip here, Milton Road has everything in place to go close in a race of this nature.
