Gold Cup Favourite Presenting Percy Back at Gowran Park

It may only be over hurdles and not over the larger obstacles, but on Thursday afternoon we finally get to see the current Gold Cup favourite Presenting Percy for the first time this season. With ground issues and a plan to not rush the horse, we have not yet seen him but with others disappointing throughout the season, he has found himself at the head of the Gold Cup market without stepping foot outside of  the barn.

Generally speaking, ahead of his run on Thursday, Presenting Percy is the 4/1 market leader for the Gold Cup, and should he win the Galmoy Hurdle then don’t be surprised to see that price shorten further. That won’t really be a reflection on the race and what he has beaten, but more about the horse showing he is fit and well enough to win races. He won’t be 100% tomorrow, that is for sure, this horse has the Gold Cup in his mind, and this race is purely a stepping stone towards that.

It will be really interesting to see whether they give him another run before Cheltenham or not, I assume they will and that will be over fences. That will be the real test for this horse to see whether he really is Gold Cup material or not, his win at Cheltenham last season in the RSA Chase would certainly suggest so.

There is a lot of excitement around Presenting Percy and tomorrow is the day we will finally see him back on the racecourse. At just eight year old, he is right in his prime and with others failing to show their quality this season, there is every chance that this horse can shoot right to the top of the pile and win the Gold Cup in March.
